North West Tasmania is likely to be your first glimpse of Australia's only island state, with many visitors arriving by vehicular ferry or plane at the major city of Devonport (Wynyard also has an airport). From Devonport, the natural wonders and interesting rural villages of the picturesque hinterland are in easy striking distance, as are the holiday towns dotted along the beautiful and dramatic north coast. Even the untouched wilderness and tiny fishing hamlets of the remote eastern coast, better known as "The Edge of the World", lie only two hours away.
