Redcliffe, Deception Bay, Caboolture, Bribie Island
Redcliffe and Deception Bay rest on the northern border
of the greater city. The Redcliffe peninsula juts out into the bay
creating a haven of beautiful sandy beaches, great swimming, and
excellent fishing. From the top of the volcanic red cliffs there are
gorgeous views of the islands which insulate Moreton Bay. Just outside
of Redcliffe is the Alma Park Zoo, a wildlife park set in subtropical
gardens allowing a hands-on experience with koalas and kangaroos.
Further north, the developing commercial centre of Caboolture
marks the end of the greater Brisbane area, and the beginning of the
Sunshine Coast's hinterland. Surrounded by tropical fruit farms, the
town has a faithfully restored Historic Town and holds markets each
Sunday at the show ground.
Twenty kilometres to the east of Caboolture, Bribie Island is
popular fishing and boating destination, less than a hours drive from
Brisbane. Apart from the small population at the southern tip, the Island
is largely untouched, with the greater part being national park or
conservation zone. The tiny network of trails are easy to navigate,
allowing you to explore at your leisure. The townships of Bongaree,
Woorim, and Bellara have a few motels and holiday units.
