Welcome to Inner Sydney...
Astoundingly, Aboriginal people lived on Australia's east coast for
at least 60,000 years before the arrival of the Europeans just over
200 years ago. As America was no longer an option for the
transportation of convicts, the British Government created a penal
colony in NSW as a solution to their overcrowded jails - thankfully
convict transportation ended in the1840's.
Free settlers continued to flock to Australia in droves spurred on by
the gold rush and other successful trades.
Today Sydney remains Australia's largest city with a rich
multicultural population of around 4 million.
