Braidwood, Bombala
Lying on the scenic Kings Highway halfway between Canberra and the
coast, the old pastoral centre of Braidwood was once the key
town of the southern goldfields. Built on a gentle hill, many of it's
old Georgian buildings survive creating the perfect setting for
several past era Australian films. Now a thriving arts and crafts
community, Braidwood also provides road access to the superb
bushwalking country of Budawang National Park.
Further south and close to the Victorian border, Bombala is an
small township supporting the surrounding timber and agricultural
industries. Nestled in the picturesque valley of the poplar and willow
lined Bombala River, this renowned trout fishing and wool producing
area is an isolated rural getaway. Visitors can fossick for locally
made products in town, and for gold in the countryside.
