Penrith, Blacktown, Castle Hill, Hornsby, Windsor, Richmond
On the far western outskirts of Sydney nestled at the foothills of
the Blue Mountain lies Penrith and the western suburbs. Here where the
majestic Nepean River flows through the Nepean Gorge,
(unbeknownst to most Sydneysiders)
is one of the
great sights of Sydney.
Penrith is located just 55kms from central Sydney and is saturated with
unspoiled bushland, national parks and landmarks of European
colonisation.
The eastern escarpment of the spectacular Blue Mountains plateau begins
less than 5kms west of Penrith and extends over a quarter of a million
hectares of native bushland. The spectacular gorge is best viewed from
the decks of the Nepean Belle Paddlewheeler.
(See Things to do - Tours and Trips)
Penrith attractions also include (alongside some fantastic restaurants and cafes), the
the
biggest licensed club in Australia, `Panthers`. Though
if you've come here to relax, it is recommended that you travel
south, here you will find Wallacia with Hopewood Health Centre, the largest and longest established
health retreat in New South Wales.
